SHARING ABOUT MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES FOR YOUNG LEARNERS

After two week learned about the subject Primary Teacher Training Course, I know more new information about Multiple Intelligences and the way giving appropriate method when teaching children in primary school. Now, I will share with you something I know about it. Do you know what Multiple Intelligences is? And what does it consist of? According to Howard Gardner (1983) Multiple Intelligences is divided into seven components such as verbal/linguistic intelligence, logical/mathematical intelligence, spatial/visual intelligence, bodily-kinaesthetic intelligence, musical intelligence, interpersonal intelligence and intrapersonal intelligence.

Firstly, children are belong to verbal/linguistic intelligence. They are good at being sensitive to words and sounds and the use of language. They prefer learn through listening, story telling, or speaking than other. Secondly, children, who have logical/mathematical intelligence, see number patterns and follow an argument better than others. They want to perform complex mathematical calculations or work with geometric shapes. Thirdly, children who can understand the visual world and respond well to it are belong to spatial/visual intelligence. Fourthly, bodily-kinaesthetic intelligence. Children like controlling the body and handling the objects such as dancing, using body language or expressing emotions through the body. Next, children who have musical intelligence have ability to hear and make sounds and rhythm in music. They can sing, compose music or understand the structure and rhythm of music better. Sixthly, interpersonal intelligence. Children have this intelligence usually are sensitive to feeling of others and responding well. They will understand other easily. Finally, intrapersonal intelligence. They have ability to understand our own feelings and control our own behavior. They can recognize their strengths and weaknesses, and understand their roles in relationship with others.

If you are a teacher of primary school, you have to understand well about multiple intelligences so that you can give suitable teaching method for children. In one class, students have different intelligence, so you need to design a lot of way teaching them. For example, when you organize activities such as role play or play game, you should make children feel happy and excited. You should give reward to encourage children in studying, in contrast, you also give punishment with children had mistake. However, you need to focus on children’s positive feelings, and avoid make them afraid teacher. This leads to they do not want to study well. When teaching for students in primary school, you develop not only English but also conscious. Thus, teacher in primary school should apply more than 2 multiple intelligences in teaching to help students develop completely and have an effective lesson.

In conclusion, you need understand more clearly about each component in multiple intelligences and apply it in your teaching effectively.

Thanks for your reading.

  1. Hello, pinkdethuong! I have read your sharing, and I want you to know my ideas about your sharing. I see that you talked characteristics of each of MIs, I agree with you about this. Because we learned and knew lots of knowledge about MIs at class. however i think you should give specific examples to describe them. i also see that you had an example here. But it is genneral ways so that the teacher can think. To apply them in learning and teaching, what should the teacher do, how organize? you need to give specific exampe to help everyone can understand clearly. thanks for sharing. 🙂

  2. Hello,
After reading your writing about MIs, I have something to talk to you. Firstly, it is quite good, but it will be better if you give some examples to make it clearer. Secondly, you should add ways to organize suitable activities for the students to have opportunities to perform their ability. Finally, you had better notice on grammar, avoid making mistakes.
    Thank you!
