“TAARE ZAMEEN PAR” is an interesting film – Mai Thi Mai K33

Hi, everyone

Have a nice day to you

Today I want to share my thoughts about education after watching a film, named “TAARE ZAMEEN PAR”.

Before discussing this film, I want to thank my teacher so much. He gave me a very significant film.

“TAARE ZAMEEN PAR” is an interesting film which I never forget it. I have learnt many useful lessons and got new look about teaching after watching this film.

The film talk about the life of an eight-year-old boy, named Ishaan Awasthi. He is a talented boy, especially art. However, he dislikes school and fails every test or exam. He meets difficulties in all subjects finds all subjects, particularly, recognizing letters.  He is always belittled by his teachers and classmates. His poor academic performance leads his parents to send him to a boarding school. Ishaan meet Aamir Khan, art teacher, who suspects that he is dyslexic, and helps him to overcome his disability.

The film “Taare Zameen Par” has attracted the attention of  many people such as educationists, teachers, parents, administrators,…..A film can change the thought, attitudes and behaviours of people. It gives some very strong and deep messages for parents and teachers. . It will make you empathize with the kid. It will make you realize that student have different ways and kinds of learning. Some student will learn better in the arts and other one will be better in Mathematics.
Although “TAARE ZAMEEN PAR” is an Indian educational film , We also find out the similarities in Vietnam.

The role of the parents shown in the film is a typical role existing in our society. Most fathers believe that they are responsible for earning money and therefore the internal responsibility of the house including child development is of the wife. This is a very dangerous notion, because the children may develop an indifferent attitude towards their fathers.

There are some advices for parents when educating their children

Firstly, Parents should not make the kids feel as a burden on them.

The film shows a blaming attitude of the mother towards the child when she mentions that she has left her job because of him. Therefore, the child feels that he is reason for all the wrong happenings. Parents should try not to make the child realize as a burden on them, this affects the self-esteem of the child. A mother being with their children all the time is not necessarily giving quality time rather a mother who even spends less time but is of quality is much more important.

Secondly, Parent should not compare the two brothers – a reality existing in our society. Each child has different abilities. Praising one child in front of the other and stating that the other is so duffer, creates many psychological problem for the child as it stops the personality development, affects the self-esteem which many lead to failure in life.

Thirdly, Parents should not put their desire to children’s shoulder

Each child has their own ability and dream. Parents are not interested in children’ thought and desire. They do not listen to what their children like, what their children do not like, what their children wish. Parents always put their desire to children’s shoulder. Parents make children lose their dreams because of parents’ own opinion and selfishness.  For example, in this film, Ishaan’s father always asked him to learn to become a famous person like doctor, engineer,…and earn more money in the future . He do not care about Ishaan’s feeling.

Besides, this film also shows some problems in education. It is the way teachers teach their students. In fact, teachers play an important role in the classroom. Each action or word of teachers influences students’ personality development. However, in this film, we can realize that many teachers educate their students incorrectly. Their methods are applied for all students. Teachers always make pressure for students. They always want students complete all tasks. Teachers only teach and care the result of exams without regard to student’s wishes. Whenever their students make mistakes, teachers also punish them. These ways should not be applied for all situations. Teachers should use different methods in teaching. There are some tips for teachers

Firstly, teachers should find out each student’s ability. We generally believe that all students have same ability in a class and teaching the same method for  all students. However, it is not correct because each student has different ability. Each student has different strength and weakness. For example, some students are good at art but other students are good at math. Therefore, teachers need to use the different ways to teach and treat students.

Secondly, teachers should make different opportunities to bring students’ potentialities out.  In the traditional class the teachers often decide what students draw and paint but in the modern class the teacher should give them a freedom to draw whatever they want. This gave an honour to their work and thus raise the self-esteem of the children.

Thirdly, teachers should have an attitude of cooperation with students.  The teachers’ attitude with the students is friendly and unthreatening, therefore the students are able to follow the instruction and share their problems through different means. For example, in this film, you can see that Nikumbh is a good teacher. He was very friendly, easygoing, and close with his students. He listens to and shares everything with Ishaan.

Finally, teachers should use the different techniques in teaching. To make positive atmosphere in the classroom, teachers can make everything such as dancing, singing, drawing,… To help students understand lesson, teachers can give students some real examples, pictures…There are many ways for teachers to use in the classroom.

In conclusion, Education for kids is not easy. However, it does not mean that we can not. Parents and teachers should find out the most suitable ways for kids. We-Teachers in the future need to change our thought about teaching. Teachers should use new methods to educate student and help them learn effectively

  1. I agree with you about so important responsibility of family and school. They influence directly on forming human, developing intelligence. If we are not interested in things that children think, enjoy, we will break down unintentionally kids’s talent. Although society increase more and more, parents and school do not put pure children under a strong pressure. Besides study, they have to be played enjoyable. we will become teacher in the future. We should understand their mental so that we have suitable methods with each students. I think that a good teacher understands students, have an inthusiasm, a love with his job
