Lesson 2:

I/ Class description: 25 students (Ss), 10 boys and 15 girls, class 3A, PhuongDongPrimary School.

II/ Time: 30’

III/ Objectives:

  • By the end of this lesson, students will be able to describe school things.

IV/ Language contents:

  • Knowledge:
    • Phonics: The sounds of the letters: ns, ls.
    • Grammar: What’s this/that?

-It’s a book.

What do you have?

– I have….

  • Skills: Listening, speaking, reading, writing.

V/ Teaching aids: textbook, board, pictures, tapes.

VI/ Procedure:

 Warm-up (5m):


– T introduces about the story

– Ask Ss some questions relating the story in pictures.

– T explains and teaches some vocabulary.

– T asks Ss order the pictures.

– T corrects and tells the story.

– T models a conversation which is similar in the story

– Ask Ss to work in pair.


 New lesson:

  • 1. Look, listen and repeat: (10m)
  • – Help Ss to distinguish between /ns/, /ls/

                   Pens            pencils

  • – Read the words twice:

Pens and pencils

                         Books and bags

   Rulers and rubbers

       They’re school things

                         They’re all new

For my new school year

– Note Ss about the sound, the stress in the words.

– Group work.

2. Listen and tick: (10m)

– Help Ss to distinguish school things in the pictures.

– Play the tape:

* Transcript:

a) A: What’s this?

B: It’s a pen.

A: It’s a pen?

B: Yes, it is.

b) A: What’s that?

B: It’s a rubber.

A: It’s a rubber?

B: Yes, it is.

– Ask Ss to give their results.

– Ask Ss to compare their answers with your partner.

* Key: 1-a, 2-b

– Play the tape again for Ss to check their answers.



3. Read and match: (8m)

– T delivers the card

– T models:

What do you have?

I have 3 pens.

– T asks student go around and interview their friend.

– T checks your result

 Homework: (2m)

– Ask Ss to learn new words.

– Ask Ss to do exercise 1 and 2, unit 8.
