Groupwork: Colours song

Unit 18: Colours

1.     Class description: 30 students (Ss) in grade 3, 18 girls, 12 boys, Nguyen Viet Xuan Primary School, Thai Nguyen City.

2.     Time: 15 m

3.     Objectives: – Skill: After the lesson, Ss will be able to

+ develop speaking skill

– Language: Ss will be able to

+ ask and answer about colours with structures:

What colour is it?

It’s ….

4.     Assumed knowledge: Ss have known some vocabularies related to the topic.

5.     Anticipated problem(s): In activity of colouring the picture, Ss may do not find their partner with the same colour.

6.     Teaching aids: Book, tape, picture, card, crayons.

7.     Procedure:

Students

  1. 1.     Pre – singing:

–  Gives some plastic crayons

–  Asks Ss to call out names of colours that T have

–  Devides class into 2 groups and gives some colours for them

–  Asks Ss to ask and answer about colours using structure:

What colours is it?

It’s ……

–  Makes model with red colour

Example:

What colour is it?

It’s red.

–  Asks Ss to discuss in groups with 6 colours

Group A: blue, yellow, white

Group B: green, pink, brown

–  Asks Ss to practice in groups

 

2. While – singing

– Asks Ss to read the song’s lyric aloud.

– Plays the music to listen.

– Sings each line of the song and asks Ss to repeat.

– Plays the music again and asks Ss to sing along with the music.

3. Post – singing

– Gives Ss different cards of colour.

– Asks them to sing the song and raise the card of colour they have when they sing the name of their colour in the song.

– Calls on 7 Ss with 7 colours to go to the board.

– Asks other to sing the song and 7 Ss raise the card of colours when they listen the name of their colour.

  • Activity: Make new song

–  Gives a list of school thing and asks Ss to call out name of them

–  Instructs Ss to replace colours to make a new song

–  Sing new song first

–  Asks Ss to sing follow T

 

 

–        Read name of colours 

–        Ask and answer about colours

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

–        Discuss in groups

 

 

–        Practice in groups

 

 

–        Read the lyric

–        Listen to the music

–        Listen to the T and repeat

–        Sing the whole song

 

 

–        Sing the song and raise the card of colour

–        Go to the board

–        Sing the song by the other Ss and raise the card of colours by Ss on the board

 

–       Call out the name

–       Replace colours by school thing

–       Listen to the T

–       Sing the new song
